Team Members

William Russell-Smith

William Russell-Smith, Managing Director, is a former strategic consultant with Mars & Co. Over a 12 year period William managed projects for multi national companies in the UK, Europe, North America and Asia, in industries ranging from automotive to auctioneering, via utilities and FMCG. William is leading AQ's development of value added services to meet the specific needs of sellside, buyside and corporate customers in a tailored fashion. He holds an MBA from the London Business School, and an MA from Cambridge University.

Albert Alonzo

Albert Alonzo, Research Director, has 19 years experience in investment research, most recently in fund management. He has worked as an equities analyst and team leader with BZW, Nomura Research Institute and Credito Italiano International. In 1999, Albert established an Italian broker dealer operation in Milan for Metzler seel Sohn. From late 2002 to early 2006, Albert worked for F&C Asset Management in the capacity of Research Assessor for equities and credit. He was a founder member of the company's 'CP176 Committee' chaired by the CIO and was responsible for both liaison with the regulator and the strategic response to the new UK rules on unbundling.

David O'Hara

David is Projects Manager, he is a Computer Science graduate of King's College Cambridge. David has previous experience in hedge fund management. He is an active investor and a holder of CFA Level I.

Peter Linnell

Peter Linnell, Technical Director, joined AQ in 2001 and has subsequently headed up the technical development of AQ's in-house database. His previous career included technical design posts with GE.

Vanessa Clarke

Iain Reed

Iain Reed is Managing Director of AQ Research Asia in Hong Kong. He has spent 17 years in Asia, largely in the investment research industry. He was a sellside analyst with BZW in Indonesia and the Philippines, and with CLSA in India, Singapore and Hong Kong. He also worked as an equity sales person with SG Securities in London. He has an MA from Cambridge University and is a Microsoft Certified Professional.

Penny Russell-Smith

Director of External Relations. Formerly Communications and Press Secretary to The Queen, Penny Russell-Smith is a strategic and tactical communications expert with particular experience in the public sector. She advised The Queen and the Royal Household on media and public relations for fourteen years, specialising in Royal finances, reputation management and crisis PR, and has worked with a wide range of external stakeholders ranging from businesses in a number of sectors to charities and other NGOs. Penny has also advised Government ministers and policy advisers in a range of Whitehall departments, in the defence, transport and foreign relations sectors. Penny has an MA from Cambridge University, and she is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

Gill Magwood

Gill runs AQ’s Accounts department.
